Frequently Asked Questions

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the practice of permanent hair removal that employs the use of a fine metal probe inserted into the hair follicle, sending a minute amount of electrical energy to the hair follicle root to destroy the hair growth tissue. Hair cannot grow from a follicle that has been permanently treated.

How does Electrolysis work?

Depending on the technique used, the electric current destroys the hair root either by heat (Thermolysis) or chemical reaction (Galvanic) and in some methods by both at the same time (Blend). Riccicardi Electrolysis specializes in both the Blend and Thermolysis.

What does Electrolysis feel like?

Our state of the art technology, computerized equipment, and treatment products available today make electrolysis a comfortable experience for our clients. There is a sensation associated with electrolysis described as a warming or tingling feeling. Your comfort and tolerance level are our main priority. Do not hesitate to let us know how we can make your treatment more pleasant.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately following treatment, there may be slight redness or swelling. Occasionally, some pinpoint markings occur. This is a normal skin reaction during the short healing phase. We will provide you with post treatment instructions and the personal attention your skin will need following electrolysis. Electrolysis has been performed for over 130 years and has proven to be an extremely safe procedure. Ricciardi Electrolysis is a New Jersey State Licensed facility. How many treatments do I need?

Electrolysis requires a series of treatments over a period of time. The number of treatments necessary varies with each client and the area to be treated. Factors such as hair growth cycles, the density and coarseness of hair presented, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medication and stress influence the treatment schedule. How well the treatment is tolerated and the consistencies of the treatments affect the overall success. Hairs are in different stages of growth, many of which are not visible on the surface of the skin at the same time. The follicle produces the hair from the blood supply, and discards it through shedding. The process of growth, dormant, shedding and replacement are known as the hair growth cycle. Once the electrolysis has permanently destroyed the follicle, it ceases to produce hair. Treatments will be more frequent in the beginning of electrolysis and less frequent later on. Treatments are divided into sessions: 15, 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions. During your consultation, we will discuss the schedule that best suits your hair removal needs.

How much does it cost?

Temporary hair removal such as laser and waxing are endless. Electrolysis is very cost effective when compared to those methods. The results of permanent hair-free smooth skin are worth the money spent.
